After saying goodbye to my gracious hosts D&D, I join Scottsdale commuters down Hayden Rd towards Tempe. Soon a nice bike trail appears on my right, which Diane had pointed out to me earlier. Named Indian Bend Wash, the trail follows a river bank and goes through lush golf pastures and ponds with american coots. I exchange good-mornings with a few joggers and dog walkers. The bridge to Tempe crosses the Salt River, which breathes life to this area and beyond.
Leaving Point Loma hostel is hard. I meet a Dutch cyclist, Tina, during breakfast. She just completed the same route as me, solo. My eyes almost pop when she begins to tell me how a dog bit her leg in Oregon. She has done the Southern Tier with a van supported ACA tour a few years back and she liked the western part more than the east.
